Jenoptik Appoints Two New Top Managers for its US Defense Business

Frank Zimone and Francis LeGasse join the two companies of the Jenoptik Defense & Civil Systems in the US effective immediately.

The Jenoptik Group is currently looking to significantly enhance its defense business in the growing US market with the appointment of Frank Zimone as president of JENOPTIK Defense, Inc. and Francis LeGasse as president of JENOPTIK Advanced Systems, LLC. Under this new leadership, Jenoptik seeks to create new opportunities for growth and for strengthening production as well as research and development capabilities on site to best serve its top US clients in order to deliver world-class products like the Hybrid Power Supply for PATRIOT and the lightweight, uncooled, military observation device for the US Military.

Coming from a materials engineering background, Frank Zimone has more than 30 years of professional experience. An acknowledged expert in capital equipment and process implementation for precision optical coating systems, Zimone holds multiple patents and has published extensively. Prior to joining Jenoptik, he worked for Denton Vacuum, a manufacturer of thin film deposition systems. As president of Denton Vacuum, he grew the company from a small domestic (USA) boutique supplier to a worldwide organization with sales, service, and manufacturing in the United States and Asia. Frank has also served as president of the Society of Vacuum Coaters and is a Fellow of Alpha Sigma Mu (National Honor Society for Engineering).

Francis LeGasse studied Electrical Engineering at Youngstown State University, Ohio and has gained comprehensive experience in systems engineering. Most recently, he was responsible for Systems Engineering at BAE Systems. As Technical Director and Functional Manager he assessed, managed and improved the technical vitality of the Systems Engineering Group. Francis has an established record of profitable, sustainable enterprise development and team building in support of private and government clients. Moreover, he brings a wealth of defense industry experience to Jenoptik due to his service at the US Army.

Working very closely with the Jenoptik Group’s US top management, both Frank and Francis will be responsible for taking the Jenoptik Defense & Civil Systems division to a new trajectory of sustained expansion for critical US military applications. “Jenoptik is delighted to have appointed Frank Zimone and Francis LeGasse, two outstanding and visionary leaders for our key US companies. The Jupiter, Florida subsidiary of Jenoptik presented a generous corporate gift to Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County for the second consecutive year.


Congressman Patrick Murphy visits Jenoptik and witnesses quality jobs the photonic industry is creating in Florida

(Jupiter, FL) – Representative Patrick Murphy visited Jenoptik today and witnessed first-hand the impact of the photonics industry in his district. On display were the world class optical systems produced by Jenoptik and the infrastructure required to design and manufacture these products. The congressman also took time to meet with employees, answer questions and discuss his concern for a sensible tax code that promotes business growth and allows for the investments to fuel job creation.


Ying Zhao joins Jenoptik

Jenoptik Optical Systems is pleased to welcome Ying Zhao as Business Development Manager.

Zhao brings an extensive background and expertise in optical systems, imaging systems and bioanalytical instrumentation for the healthcare and life science markets. Before joining Jenoptik, she contributed in sales, marketing and product management positions at Thorlabs, Newport, Alpha Technics and AOT.

Jenoptik sponsoring entrepreneurial challenge at Photonics West

This year eight entrepreneurial finalists will present three-minute pitches to a panel of judges live in front of an audience at Photonics West 2014 during the SPIE Startup Challenge. At stake is their share of $17,500 cash prize and more importantly a week long entrepreneurial boot camp with professionals to assist them in further refining their ideas.

Jenoptik collaboration recognized with “Editor’s Choice” at 2013 R&D 100 Awards

In a collaborative effort with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Jenoptik Optical Systems has contributed to a special-purpose, fixed-focus lens for a digital X-ray imager, MiniMAX. The invention has been recognized with a 2013 R&D 100 award.


Matt Falanga Joins Jenoptik Optical Systems

Jenoptik Optical Systems is pleased to welcome Matt Falanga to our optical engineering team in Jupiter, FL.

Matt has prior experience from Johnson and Johnson Vision Care, Draper Laboratory, and Clear Align in product development and testing. He will split responsibilities between the lab and design desk specializing in testing and optical tolerancing.

Matt graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science, Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science, Optics/Optical Sciences. At UCF, he was a graduate research assistant in the Nanophotonic Device Group and is a member of Tau Beta Pi and the IEEE Photonics Society.


New Vice President for Jenoptik’s Lasers Business Unit in North America

Jenoptik’s Lasers & Material Processing division appoints Stephen Hypsh to the post of the Vice President of the Lasers Business Unit in the USA & North America.

Stephen Hypsh has more than 15 years of experience and excellent knowledge of the laser sector, mainly in the USA and North America. Before he began working for Jenoptik, he held various executive positions in the industry. Most  recently, he used to be responsible for the business development at Raydiance – a manufacturer of femtosecond lasers. Moreover, one of his previous positions was that of a Sales Manager at Trumpf Lasers in North America.


Tolis Deslis is honored as a SPIE Senior Member

SPIE has named Tolis Deslis, Engineering Manager at Jenoptik Optical Systems, a Senior Member. Tolis will be recognized in San Diego this week at the SPIE Optics and Photonics Conference along with the other recipients.

Senior Members are recognized by the Society for their professional experience, their active involvement with the optics community and SPIE, or significant performance that sets them apart from their peers.

Annually the Membership Committee recommends a class of members for recognition as Senior Members. Criteria include 5 years of SPIE membership along with 10 years of professional experience. Accomplishments considered include product engineering and development, patents, publishing of journal articles or textbooks. Service to SPIE, the industrial community, government or educational community is also considered.
