Gray Scale Technology

Gray Scale Technology

Gray scale technology allows for the creation of a wide variety of shapes allowing for the best optical performance achievable. Traditional binary optics rely on a "stairstep" shaped approximation of the ideal surface shape. Gray scale can actually create that ideal shape. Curves, ramps, torroids, or any other shape is possible.

Nano-Optics

Nano-Optics

The wide range of micro and nano optical applications requires optical elements with typical structure sizes beginning at several nanometers and ending in the range of millimeters. In the case of diffractive optics, it is known from the grating equation that the feature size is proportional to Lambda/NA, which implies for applications in the UV-wavelength range to typical structure lateral dimensions in a range between 1 µm down to 100 nm and below. The fabrication of products with minimum features sizes down to the sub-micron range requires high-resolution lithography techniques.

UV Materials

UV Region: Wavelengths 190 nm - 400 nm

The ultra-violet wavelength region is of increasing importance, as many optical applications require shorter wavelengths. This is the case of micro-lithography, where the need for shorter wavelengths is critical to achieve finer detail resolutions. In the medical field UV light is being used in laser radiation for non-invasive and eye surgery. We can provide our customers with the right microoptical solution to match the high accuracy requirements of this region.

Visible Materials

Visible Region: Wavelengths 400 nm - 700 nm

The visible wavelength region of the electro-magnetic spectrum is a relatively narrow band defined by the sensitivity of the human eye. There are many instruments that we use in every day life that utilize visible light for reproduction of colors, finer resolution, and precise measurements. Cameras, printers, barcode scanners, microscopes, and telescopes are some of the systems using the visible spectrum.

Precision Manufacturing

Precision Manufacturing

Precision manufacturing such as CNC grinding and polishing are techniques widely used to make various shapes for different optical applications. In the field of integrated microoptics, the aims are to generate optical components precisely aligned to each other. Thus, typical results of precision grinding and polishing microoptics elements, available at JENOPTIK Microoptics starts from 0.4 mm width and 0.02 mm sag height up to conventional diameter and sag inclusive aspheric or free form surfaces. Optical elements can be fabricated with < 0.003 mm parallelism of a reference side with respect to lithography. These microoptics have position accuracy with respect to lithography better than ± 0.02 mm, length tolerances better than ± 0.01 mm, and surface roughness down to DUV level.

Fabrication of Precision Molds for Polymer Microoptics

Fabrication of Precision Molds for Polymer Microoptics

Molds for polymer microoptics, both diffractive and refractive, can be supplied. They can be delivered in a very short turn around time and in a wide variety of sizes. As polymer optics become more appropriate for microoptics, we are capable of providing either the molds or the parts themselves that will make possible the products of the future.
